Racing home against the sunrise
I gotta rest my head, gotta get some shuteye.
I need to find a dream before the morning light
breaks through my blinds.
By nine am if I’m still tossing and turning
still rolling not snoring I need to decide
do I get out of bed, do I lay on my side
or put up the good fight?
Missing out on the days can turn a man insane.
I need to take a new lead change my routine
and find a better way.
I’m a stranger to the afternoon
but a friend of the moon
and all the distant stars in the sky
could never outshine these city lights
at least not in this night time.
No control I’m awake until the end
for the waves and the moon have their hold.
And the streets are too loud for me to find a cloud,
so I just wait for later to come now.
Do I rest on my back? Should I lay on my face?
Do I turn on my side? Drink more of the cheap wine?
Buy new sheets? Keep counting sheep
and maybe drown them with whiskey.
Missing out on the days can turn a man insane.
I need to take a new lead change my routine
and find a better way.
The evenings are less pleasing
when you're leaving
sometimes I wish the world
would stop turning.
